Women's History Month: Mahjabin Haque


In Sylhet, there was a girl who fancied working for NASA ever since her adolescence. She initiated her education at Sylhet Khajanchibari International School and College though in 2009 when her family was fortunate to gain the DV Lottery, they flew off to America. Following this, she completed her graduation from Wayne State University’s College of Engineering in Computer Science. Soon after applying for an internship at NASA, she topped among thousands of candidates and attained her place.


Yes, we are addressing Mahjabin Haque, the dream falconer. Her determination and her mother's motivation pushed her to pounce on success fearlessly.


Mahjabin had been very active in extracurricular activities. From being part of many organizations to growing to be the president of the Bangladesh Student Association in her university, she did it all. Furthermore, Mahjabin was proficient in art and design and was also a dance choreographer for her associations' cultural presentations. She bagged the opportunity for interning twice at NASA as the only Bangladeshi intern, first as a data analyst in 2018, where she found herself as the Intern of the Week. Besides, she joined the Intern Student Council, promoting herself as the video committee chair. Next, she interned as the software engineer intern at Mission Control Center (MCC) in 2019. In October 2019, she associated herself as the space system software engineer at Nasa’s Johnson Space Center. Mahjabin's engaging personality attracted job proposals from notable multinational companies nevertheless, she seized her possibility with NASA.


Mahjabin dwells in Michigan with her mother Ferdousi Chowdhury and her younger sibling Syed Samiul Haque who currently serves the US Army, while their father stayed back in Bangladesh owing to his job.


The country is proud to have such a promising hard-working and aspirational personage that even after collapses stood up and managed to goal. To girls out there striving after their desires remember Mahjabin Haque's precious words, "Dreams do come true if you work hard and stay true to yourself".
