Women's History Month: Rubana Huq
In Noakhali on 9 February 1964, another triumphant lady was born, Rubana Huq. She completed her education at Viqarunnisa Noon School, doing her undergrad from Holy Cross College. She did her master's in literature from East-West University and received her Ph.D. from Jadavpur University. She is a businesswoman, being the first female BGMEA President. At present, she also serves as the managing director of Mohammadi Group, a Bangladeshi conglomerate. Rubana also sufficed as the erstwhile CEO of TV Southasia, while BBC 100 Women featured Rubana Huq for two consecutive years. She is additionally there in the board of trustees for the Asian University for Women. Amid this pandemic, she stood beside the workers and assured the continuance of their jobs. Her wise words, "Sometimes silence is the most important thing a leader could do," is something she did follow when she received criticism for opening garment factories between the pandemic. Among this successful life, she managed to brush her poetic skills and even wrote a book of poems titled Time of My Life. Rubana Huq received the SAARC Literary Award for her poetry in 2006. This flourishing lady was married off to Anisul Huq, a humble and charismatic personality who is the late Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation. They are the parents of four children and grandparents of two grandchildren.
We are glad to have such a strong personality with so-much deferential nature, with the right mind to serve the nation. We hope to see more victorious women emerging following the lead of this kind of icon.
